Barbara Cook on She Loves Me
In honor of this year’s revival of She Loves Me, we sat down with one of musical theater’s premier interpreters, Barbara Cook, who starred as Amalia in the 1963 original show. In this clip, the Tony Award winning actress shares with us her thoughts on the music, by Jerry Bock with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and why the show did not run as long as it should have when it first premiered, despite obtaining great reviews.
The ten-time Tony-nominated revival from 1993 will be back on Broadway celebrating Roundabout’s 50th Anniversary Season with an official opening on March 3rd at Studio 54. She Loves Me, follows two parfumerie clerks, Amalia (Laura Benanti) and Georg (Zachary Levi), who are constantly butting heads while on the job. Little do they know that the anonymous pen pals they have both been falling for, happen to be each other!
