Though he is, perhaps, best known for his award-winning portrayal of George Costanza in the television series Seinfeld, Jason Alexander had already made his mark on the Broadway stage over the span of a decade. Raised in Newark, New Jersey, Alexander dropped out of college for a life in the theater.
His first major role on Broadway was as Joe in the short-lived original 1981 production of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily, We Roll Along. He later appeared in The Rink with Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli (1984).
In 1989, Jason Alexander won a Tony® for his performance in the musical revue, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway.
