A showcase for fresh new theatrical talent, the New Faces revues were the concept of entrepreneur Leonard Sillman who put together seven such revues between 1934 and 1968. Of all of them, the 1952 vintage remains by all accounts the most successful, thanks in large part to an extraordinary cast that included Paul Lynde, Eartha Kitt, Alice Ghostley, Carol Lawrence, and Robert Clary, with Lynde also joining the talented team of writers in which could be found Ronny Graham and a budding Mel Brooks. The revue, a series of sketches and songs written by Sheldon Harnick, Ronny Graham and Arthur Siegel, and directed by John Murray Anderson and John Beal, opened at the Royale Theatre on May 16, 1952, for a long run of 365 performances.
