America has a new President- Now Playing Irving Berlin’s “Mr. President”
America has voted and we will have a new president. We love Irving Berlin’s classic musical Mr. President which opened October 20, 1962 at the St. James Theatre on Broadway. The book was by veterans Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse and dealt with such mundane topics as raising a teenage girl under the vigilant eyes of secret service men and attempting to resolve the world’s problems at the same time, all of it was punctuated by Berlin’s lilting melodies. Mr. President closed after playing 265 performances.
