“Let it Ride!” Opened 55 Years Ago Today!

George Abbott’s 1935 comedy Three Men on a Horse seemed prime material for an exciting musical! Jay Livingston and Ray Evans made it a reality when they the created the songs for Let It Ride!. Let it Ride!, written by Abrams S. Ginnes, opened at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre on October 12, 1961. This production starred two beloved comedians – Sam Levene, better remembered as Nathan Detroit in the original Guys and Dolls, and George Gobel, a comedian and actor who had his own weekly show on NBC. It also featured blonde bombshell Barbara Nichols. However, the show did not have much success with the critics and the fans, and it closed 68 performances later.
