Joel Grey, the Tony and Academy Award-winning Master of Ceremonies in Cabaret finally tells his remarkable life story his new autobiography Master of Ceremonies. Fresh from his enormous personal success as the lecherous Emcee in Kander and Ebb’s Cabaret, Joel Grey found his first starring job and a marvelous showcase for his talents in George M!, a celebration of the life and times (and songs) of maverick composer George M. Cohan, the “man who owned Broadway.” With a book by Michael Stewart and John and Fran Pascal, and sparkling direction by Joe Layton, the musical debuted on April 10, 1968, at the Palace Theatre, where it closed two years later after 436 performances.
