Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along Turns 35!
Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along turns 35 today! Based on the 1934 play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, adapted by George Furth, Merrily chronicled the relationship between two friends, a composer and his lyricist, from college to the present, but told its story in reverse order. Among the gems that survived are, “Old Friends” and “Not A Day Goes By” continue to rank high in the Sondheim songbook for their beauty and originality. Look out for Lonny Price‘s upcoming documentary on the production called The Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened.
